Translated on the English menu as ‘minced beef on toast,’ this popular Danish dish is really just an open-faced burger, with a fried, rare beef patty placed atop a single slice of toasted bread. The interesting toppings are what make it uniquely Danish: a huge pile of horseradish, raw red onions, capers, beets, pickled mixed vegetables, and a “sauce ” of raw egg yolks you pour on top. A pungent and weird burger, but it was really good! I’ve also seen it translated on some menus as ‘fried tartar,’ which makes sense given some of the toppings.
